Excitingly Spicy & Aromatic

A french–german white wine grape variety with hints of flowers and especially spices. Besides, Gewürz means “spice” in German. The cool summers and mild winters in combination with the hilly, sloping soils of the wider region of Ioannina are considered ideal for this variety. As a result, this variety is recommended for the county of Ioannina. Its grapes have small bunches and small pinkish berries.

Characteristics

Intensely aromatic with spicy temperament, it is classed among the significantly difficult and sensitive varieties. It is cultivated in hilly, sloping soils and our vineyards in Zitsa, in a low yield per hectare (around 350kg per acre) and provides us with an excellent raw material.

By using this and our longstanding knowledge in the vinification of white wines, we produce the Traminer of “Domaine Glinavos” (P.G.I.: “Ioannina”). It is a special wine with main organoleptic characteristics being those of sweet rose, pineapple, nectarine, honey and hints of ginger.
